NIWA Building

The new offices in Nelson are located right over the road from the Nelson Haven and easily accessible to the boat ramp and houses the regional office undertaking environmental science research. A two storey construction containing a mixture of offices, laboratories, meeting rooms and storage space it has been purposed designed for NIWA.

To reflect the sea side location and nature of the business blue colours were chosen. The materials are expressed joint Hardies titan board contrasted with Colorsteel Corrugated iron cladding. The main Entry has a striking glass verandah and outdoor spaces are provided at both ground and first floor level. In 2003 this building won the ADNZ Most Innovative Design Using James Hardies Products.
