This community church has been on this site for over 90 years and is part of the local community. They were getting over 250 to services and needed to modernise the facilities and provide a larger complex for their Sunday services and mid week programmes.
The church property is set in the horticulture region 15km from Nelson and they wanted a building that was rural in character and fitted into the “vineyard scene”. A large proportion of the members have young families so the new facility had to provide for them as they meet mid week and during the weekends.
The centre pivot point is the Café with indoor/outdoor flow. This is a place where mum’s meeting during the week can have a coffee, young people at night can socialise and after a service on Sunday anyone could have refreshments.
From the Café/Foyer there is direct access to the 450 seat auditorium which has state of the art audio, sound and lighting equipment suitable for modern churches and community groups to perform productions. As part of meeting needs in the community 2 rooms were provided with access to a playground. These rooms double for meetings in the evening.
The original church was retained and converted into a youth hall and a full commercial kitchen capable of catering for weddings and socials was provided.
As with any organisation management offices are necessary. There are rooms for counselling, staff meetings and resources in a wing which is far enough away but still accessible.
