The typical family Bach on the beach front that has been in the family for years was in need of an “extreme makeover”. The open plan Kitchen Dining living area was retained, large outdoor living decks were added. The Master Bedroom was opened up to the deck and spa with a new Ensuite. The traditional bunkrooms remained and a new guest bedroom with access to the common bathroom was provided.
A double garage with room for boats and cars was added to the front along with a paved courtyard. A “morning deck” was added to the east side. It also provides protection when the sea breeze comes up. Materials used tie in with the coastal location; corrugated iron and cedar weatherboards and the landscaping reflects the Takaka Hill. Natural marble rock was used as feature stones and the dolphin near the deck is carved from marble. The clients wanted an up-to-date Bach that reflected what the Golden bay was known for – it’s golden sand and marble. The Titania Colorsteel and golden colour of the Cedar do just that. They also wanted to enjoy the view to the sea from within the house and out on the deck.
